There are more than 225 cities with over 100,000 population and ten cities with over a million people. Different regions of the country experience varying degrees of socio-economic changes, Heterogeneity among its populace demands that generalizations about India be made with extreme caution.Orissa, the paradise of amazing reserves of energy and natural resources, is one of the poorest states in the country and adversely placed in the context of development, The State stands high in case of mass poverty, starvation, illiteracy, widespread malnutrition, child labour practice, recurring disasters, discrimination & violation of human rights and so on so forth.ODISHA SABUJA PATRIKA with its definite objectives, scientific approach and effective implementation strategies is a close knitted team of social activists and development professionals, who joins their hands during 1990 to promote sustainable social development activities, At present the organizations works at national level with an objective to empower weaker sections of society, protection and promotion of human rights with an emphasis on disadvantaged group viz, children , women, aged , dalits, tribals and socio-economically backward communities.

CHILD RIGHTS PROTECTION AND PROMOTION
Millions of Children are in bondage, with a fragmented present and shattered future. There are estimated 11 million to 110 million child labours in India and ironically the estimation varies due to intercomplicated factors, Increasing incidences of child labour practice, child trafficking, child abuse and violation of child rights in Orissa has attracted immediate attention of the social mosaic, ODISHA SABUJA PATRIKA undertakes activities to build up public opinion on these issues, persuading the self government, sensitizing the functionaries of local self government, sensitizing the functionaries, media national/ international NGOs and intervenes in specific child right violation case which has got broader impact. Alliance building, policy advocacy, research and documentation and model intervention / community development are in nutshell the activities undertaken by Odisha Sabuja Patrika.

To monitor the international human rights instruments, national legal instruments. Shradha Saburi Abhijan. A grass root intervention called Shradha Saburi Abhijan has been in operation aiming at mainstreaming the children, elimination of child labour, combating child trafficking and preventing child abuse. Moreover the programme intents to protect and ensure basic rights of the children, quality and equitable education, health, participation and development of children. The broader objectives of the Sharadha Saburi Abhijan are as follows. . To eradicate child labour, create child-friendly environment in the operational villages and to boost the process of physical, social and psychological development of children. . To ensure quality education for all children. . To protect, propagate and promote rights of the children through fullest community participation and to revitalize their culture, tradition and local environment to suit for the interest and benefit of children. Sabuja Patrika undertakes programmes, which, aims for judicious and effective management of natural resources. Agriculture Development Research and Training center set up by Odisha Sabuja Patrika emphasizes on sustainable agriculture through traditional and modern technologies. Research and development of farming practices, community irrigation, organization of special interest groups ( For farmers, Women & youths ) food processing is also its focused area. Resources are undertaken by Odisha Sabuja Patrika through integrated Watershed.
RIGHTS OF AGED
Improved life expectancy has given rise to an increase in the number of persons above 60 years. In the beginning of the 20 th Century, the number of persons aged 60 years and over was 19 million and today the figure stands at over 70 million. Of these 5.5 million were males and 6.6 million were females. There has been an increase of 50 millions in the last fifty years. During the next 25 years an increase of 107 million is estimated. By 2025 their number will be 177.7 million. In the neo economic age, the value system and structure of families have considerable changed. The situation of elderly has deteriorated in this changing scenario. Welfare of the aged has been on the low priority ever since decades. Sabuja Patrika provides a solution to this by adopting some older persons through its sponsoring Grant Parent programme many older persons who have taken care of their basic food, financial and medical needs. A seemingly minor condition like cataract robs millions of elderly of their eyesight making them dependant. Sabuja Patrika organizes cataract operations every year giving older people a new lease of life , enabling them to once again earn their livelihood and live a dignified life. ASHA- Alternative Source of Help & Action To foster independence in the lives of older people , Sabuja Patrika has formed elder’s group called Asha ( Alternative source of help capacity, ensuring socio economic security, creating self dignity among elderly and thereby bringing them to the mainstream of the development process . 24 such groups are active in different operational areas. Objectives :- . To promote self help capacity of the older persons and ensure socio- economic security of the older persons and to create a pressure group to ensure the rights of the older person. . To create self-confidence and sense of dignity among the elderly and thereby bringing them to the mainstream of development process. To create an atmosphere towards the positive attitude of ageing process and keeping physical and mental fitness. . To critically aware the general masses on aged care, so that the older personnity can get proper respect and dignity in the family as well as in the community and thereby strengthening the family support system for the aged. . To improve the quality of life of the older person by ensuring household food security and basic needs of the older person i.e fooding, clothing, nurtrition, shelter and medical needs. The older persons were supported for different trades like palm leaf work, fishing, pottery, idol making , betel vine, weaving, carpentry, blacksmith coconut vending and other small trades.
ACCESS TO INFORMATION AND DEEPENING DEMOCRACY
Seeking Accountability as a matter of right for civil society persons and creating a demand base for right to access, development through informed participation in the governance process and system of making bureaucratic, political and judicial accountability a reality for the citizen of india. Facilitation of peoples involvement to cast their votes and to become a part of the entire electoral process and as responsible citizens with ensured access to Right to information has been one of our priority agenda.
. Strengthening and promotion of self governance with a view to further democratize the polity at all levels and initiating a process to empower the community for access to Development. . Campaign for promotion of Right to information with a view to bring about an open, transparent, accountable and responsive order of Governance. . Promoting & ensuring free & fair election, promotion of Voter’s Rights and implementation of supreme court judgment regarding electoral reforms & disclosure.
JANA ADHIKAR ABHIJAN
IJana adhikar Abhijan is an initiative facilitated by Sabuja Patrika to promote human rights culture and ensure good governance with the overall goal of Empowerment of Community- Increase in Access to Development as a right associating NGO, CBOs, Journalists, Educationists, Lawyers, and other concern citizens.
COMMUNITY HEALTH MANAGEMENT
In the pace to secure basic amenities for life, health is most neglected concern in the third world countries. Our approach is to not only inculcate healthy practices among community but also aimed towards the behavioural change for its sustenance, Women and Children are most vulnerable victims of health hazards. Therefore our major emphasis is to help this section of population and also empower them to develop ownership for the health related support so that instead of providing services they should demand for it. However , RCH< HIV/AIDS , Drug deaddiction and counselling, campaign against killer disease, nutrition and sanitation are focused in the health agenda. Reproductive child Health (RCH) Despite of many constitutional provisions, huge investment, the women folk are not only struggling for basic amenities of life but their access to health compliance, education, counselling, timely referral etc. Is also limited, All these factors cumulated to make the scenario of women and child health more dismal . To improve the quality of life in these areas and to exhilarate the use of family planning methods, a strong services supported by the active involvement of the community is needed.
Sabuja Patrika is operating targeted intervention for promotion of prevention and treatment of targeted community with focus on female sex workers and their attendees. To address the issue Sabuja Patrika campaigns to sensitize people regarding symptoms, causes and referral for AIDS/HIV and sexual health . Regular programmes of counselling, guidance, community education, production of resource materials and communication tools moral education and allied activities.
In the move for promoting development of a culture of Human Rights Education Sabuja Patrika has initiated package of programmes and intervention initiatives. Human Rights Education in Schools As a part of the National Programme on Human Rights Education in Schools implemented by institute of Human Rights Education during 2006 – 2008 . Sabuja Patrika is implementing the programme in Orissa as a state holder agency . Although the programme started with 60 schools run by ST, SC development Deptt. Govt of Odisha. Sabuja Patrika advocated for inclusion of Human Rights education in school curriculum.
Gender is the Social difference between men and women that are learned, socially constructed, changeable over time and have wide variations both within and between cultures. E. G while only women can give birth to ( biology determines) Biology does not determines who will raise the children ( Gender Behavior ) We envision, enabling women to make an informed decision and demand for their rights. Initial effort of bringing them together took shape of a powerful association. NARISHAKTI these groups not only take thrift & credit management , income generating activities but also came up as an institution fight for the atrocities on women, social discrimination and injustice, Sabuja Patrika helps to federate such groups at block and panchayat level. By the beginning 2007, 156 groups involving around 3900 women are associated in this effort.
One of the core area of concern of gender justice being increasing violence on women and its prevention Sabuja Patrika has joined with we Can network as one of the core team member in Odisha along with other programmes of empowerment and justice for women.
COMMUNITY BASED DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
Sabuja Patrika undertakes programmes for enhancing social capital resources for greater community action towards innovative initiatives through development of village level contingency plan. Different propels organization such as women self help groups, farmers groups ( livelihood-community irrigation) and youth groups have also been activated by Sabuja Patrika , which works as a task force during the emergency situation. Legal Status Sabuja Patrika depends on contribution from benevolent persons/ institutions for rendering service to the millions of neglected and vulnerable masses. All donations to Sabuja Patrika are exempted under 80 G of IT Act. Odisha Sabuja Patrika is registered under Trust Act , Under the rules and provision of FCRA 1976 and under 12 A & 80 G of Income Tax Act.
